Barbara Bell, Secretary
Barbara Bell teaches in the English Department at
Santa Barbara City College, a position she has held since moving to the area in
1997. Her previous college teaching experience includes five years at Francis
Marion University and four years at Texas A&M University. Although she has
taught a variety of courses in both composition and literature, Barbara has a
special interest in working with struggling, under-prepared writers. Thus the
educational outreach arm of Speaking of Stories is what first attracted her to
the organization. As the primary liaison between City College and Speaking of
Stories, Barbara wants to convert students into lovers of good literature while
helping them improve their reading and writing skills. She believes that
exposure to Speaking of Stories, both in the classroom and in the theater, can
impress upon students the power of the written—and spoken—word.
