SUSAN KELLER

Susan Keller is a fifth-generation Californian whose career has taken her across North America.   Playing the role of Venus in the Canadian Opera Company’s production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Susan toured 42 states and all the Canadian provinces and territories.  She remained in Canada as a panelist on the long-running and acclaimed CBC-Television show, This Is the Law. She also appeared in cabaret shows and revues (in the premier of Gilbert and Sullivan Tonite!, with the Canadian production of In Gay Company, in Take a Beaver to Lunch (with celebrated Canadian humorist Dave Broadfoot); she explored comedy (as a member of Toronto's Second City), theater (Becky Lou in The Tooth of Crime at Toronto’s Tarragon Theatre, Hypatia in Misalliance at the Shaw Festival, and Marianne in The Miser with the Philadelphia Drama Guild, among others), and TV drama (starring in More Joy in Heaven with John Vernon and in the award-winning series, The Collaborators). She made her feature film debut as the lead in The Clown Murders, opposite John Candy playing his first dramatic role.

Susan’s career remained equally varied after she returned to California. She co-hosted Mid-Morning LA for KHJ-TV; she was a regular on Days of Our Lives, a guest on numerous TV comedy and drama series (including the "Who Shot JR" episode of Dallas), and she co-starred with Dick Sargent in ANTA-West’s premier of Gog and Magog at the Coronet Theatre. She pursued an award-winning song-writing career, created comedy and vocal showcases for LA clubs, and she acted as spokeswoman for an eclectic assortment of commercial products.  This last activity ultimately paid Susan's way through UCLA Law School, and she practiced entertainment law prior to moving to Santa Barbara.

Local audiences have enjoyed seeing Susan on stage with Civic Light Opera’s The Sound of Music, at the Ensemble Theatre, in regular appearances with Speaking of Stories and in Bad Dog at Center Stage.  She also produced Always… Patsy Cline and Leslie Nielsen’s Clarence Darrow at the Lobero Theatre.  Susan also is the Founder of SANTA BARBARA REVELS, a performing organization that builds community by staging events and activities to celebrate seasonal change.  Last December, Susan produced the 3rd annual presentation of “The Christmas Revels:  In Celebration of the Winter Solstice.” This fully-staged, colorfully-costumed production featured a large, multi-generational cast of actors, singers, instrumentalists, and dancers and was filled with the traditional music, dance, drama, and story-telling of Victorian England  This year’s new show will be at the Lobero Theatre on December 16th, 17th and 18th.
