BENJAMIN BOTTOMS Benjamin Bottoms’ professional experience is distributed between his work as an actor and as a visual artist. He has acted locally, at the Lobero Theatre (Finnian’s Rainbow, West Side Story, and They’re Playing Our Song—the latter with siblings Timothy and Joseph) and the Ensemble Theatre (several shows including All in the Timing and The Heiress—receiving Indy Awards for both). Recently, he performed in PCPA’s Summer 2000 production of 1940’s Radio Hour and the SBIFF’s Peter Stark Screenplay Competition readings (for the past two years), directed by Nancy Kawalek. Regional and other credits include The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, The Immigrant at the Tacoma Actors Guild, Dunbar at the Cast Theatre in L.A., and Michael Smith’s Genesis West production of Trouble and Crazy Words Crazy Tunes starring Kaye Ballard. With his three brothers, Benjamin has twice presented a reading of their selections from To a God Unknown at the Salinas Steinbeck Festival. Benjamin is the recipient of S.B. Foundation Artist in Residence and Audience Development grants for his work as a director, designer, and artist at Santa Barbara High School, and made possible by the James Irvine Foundation and the SBCAC. Other directing credits include Ensemble Theatre Production of Roberto M. Cossa’s The Granny (LA Nona) and G.B. Shaw’s Arms and the Man. As a visual artist, and veteran mentor, public art commissions include: The Celebration Murals, The Guadalupe Mural Project, Welcome to Lompopolis, Cultural Designs and Rake Rock; and interactive environmental design and a Zen garden for the Los Prietos Boys Camp/Tri-Counties Boot Camp. His most recent art work will be shown this June as part of the Degrees of Abstraction exhibit, at Santa Barbara County’s Channing Peak and Betteravia Galleries, to be curated by Anthony Askew. This is Benjamin’s second reading with Speaking of Stories. |
