WILLIAM SMITHERS

WILLIAM SMITHERS  received a Theatre World Award for his Broadway debut performance as Tybalt in Romeo & Juliet starring Olivia de Havilland, and an Obie Award for his performance Off-Broadway as Treplev in Chekhov's The Sea Gull. He has appeared in nearly 400 television performances including as Laertes in Maurice Evans's Hamlet, David Schuster in the series Peyton Place, Anderson Galt in the series Executive Suite and as Jeremy Wendell in Dallas. His feature films include Attack! (Lt. Woodruff) and Papillon  (Warden Barrot). For two years, Mr. Smithers created, produced and directed the Santa Barbara Theatre of the Air, a radio drama series for KCSB, the radio station of UCSB, featuring works of classic and contemporary playwrights. Since September, 2008 the repertory of the SBTA has been available as a podcast on the Internet at http://theatre-of-the-air.com/WordPress/. He and his wife, Lorrie Hull Smithers, are co-hosts of the Channel 17 television program Just Between Us! On March 3, 2009, Mr. Smithers will direct and appear in a staged reading of Ida Fink's The Table at UCSB as part of the George Wittenstein lecture series about the Holocaust.
