JOESPH VELASCO
A
graduate of UCSB, Joseph began his career with the renowned Chicano theater
company, El Teatro Campesino as an intern and later as a resident director. He
went on to study physical theater at the international Estudio Busqueda de
Pantomima Teatro in Guanjuato, Mexico and later joined James Donlon & Company in
creating original movement theatre works including the award-winning WRENCH. A
co-founder of BOXTALES Theatre Company, Joseph has also worked with various
local theatre groups including Access Theatre, Speaking of Stories, and Ensemble
Theatre Company. He continues to tell stories as a solo artist. He currently
teaches World Literature at Santa Barbara High School and practices his
storytelling craft with his sons, Akela and Ixaka. In his spare time Joseph
participates in full-contact origami tournaments, participates in the democratic
process whenever possible, and continues attempt to defy the laws of physics.
