JOESPH VELASCO

A graduate of UCSB, Joseph began his career with the renowned Chicano theater company, El Teatro Campesino as an intern and later as a resident director.  He went on to study physical theater at the international Estudio Busqueda de Pantomima Teatro in Guanjuato, Mexico and later joined James Donlon & Company in creating original movement theatre works including the award-winning WRENCH.  A co-founder of BOXTALES Theatre Company, Joseph has also worked with various local theatre groups including Access Theatre, Speaking of Stories, and Ensemble Theatre Company.  He continues to tell stories as a solo artist.   He currently teaches World Literature at Santa Barbara High School and practices his storytelling craft with his sons, Akela and Ixaka.  In his spare time Joseph participates in full-contact origami tournaments, participates in the democratic process whenever possible, and continues attempt to defy the laws of physics.
