JOHN KNOX-JOHNSTON
John Knox-Johnston was born in the U.K. but was raised in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia (now modern Zambia). He has worked extensively as an actor on the East Coast, appearing often at the Actors' Theatre of Nantucket and at New Haven's famed Long Wharf Theatre. Notable roles have been Sir Francis Chesney in
Charley's Aunt, Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey, Baron van Swieten in Amadeus, and Dr. Chausable in
The Importance of Being Earnest. As a narrator and a singer, John appeared in the U.S. premieres of Cole Porter's
A Swell Party and Jule Styne's I've Heard That Song Before. Santa Barbara audiences heard him read
The Gift of The Magi in a program of holiday readings in 2006. He divides his time between Nantucket Island and Santa Barbara. John and his wife, Sandy, are committed volunteers for Santa Barbara's own Direct Relief International with special involvement in programs in Guatemala and Africa. Rudyard Kipling's
The Elephant's Child marks John's debut performance with Speaking of Stories.
