A Seminar in Honor of Bert States
Facilitator: Alice Rayner (Stanford University)
Tuesday, January 27 / 7-9 PM / FREE
Voice Room, Performing Arts Wing of HSSB, Room 1105, UCSB

Focused on the work of the late UCSB Professor Bert States, this seminar will read and discuss key essays by this leading figure in dramatic theory. States wrote seven major books, ranging from Irony and Drama (1972) to Seeing in the Dark (1997). Alice Rayner, a former student of States’ and currently the Chair of Drama at Stanford University, will select texts from States’ oeuvre for participants to read in advance. Rayner, whose own scholarship is on the phenomenology of theatre, is the author of To Act, To Do, To Perform (Michigan).

RSVP to Catherine Cole, Dramatic Art <
cole@dramandance.ucsb.edu> for readings in advance.
