2008 Season

Speaking of Humor
with a reading by T.C. Boyle

Monday, January 21, 2008 7:30 pm
Speaking of Stories opens its new season with Speaking of Humor, an evening of fun and humorous stories.  Artistic Director Maggie Mixsell has put together an evening to tickle your funny bone and send you out of the theater on a wave of laughter.  For the 2008 season Speaking of Stories is placing a special emphasis on presenting the works of Santa Barbara authors and we start the season with offerings by Santa Barbara’s own T.C. Boyle and Christina Allison.  As an added treat this season Artistic Director Maggie Mixsell and founder Steven Gilbar will be available for an informal Q&A session before the show.  If you want a preview of the performance, arrive a little early and join them at the front of the auditorium to the left of the stage for a discussion of the stories, actors and writers.

How To Become A Writer Lorrie Moore Devin Scott

T.C. Boyle, a celebrated author of numerous short story collections and novels, performs Sorry Fugu, his self-described “love letters to the food critics of the world.”  This satirical tale is a classic, and Mr. Boyle’s performances are always memorable and a don’t miss experience.

Christina Allison, is a triple threat – actress, singer and author and tonight she shows off two of these talents performing her story If Only, which won 1st place in the humor category at the 2006 Santa Barbara Writers’ Conference.  Christina is an accomplished actress having graced not only the Speaking of Stories stage, but numerous stages from Santa Barbara to New York to Europe.

Devin Scott, will bring and educational element to the evening performing the hilarious and instructional How To Become A Writer – or Have You Earned This Cliche? by Lorrie Moore.

The always entertaining Tony Miratti will bring to life a final surprise offering.
