STUART MCLEAN

Stuart McLean's, Dave Cooks the Turkey, is a hilarious tale of what happens when a domestically-challenged engineer takes responsibility for cooking the family's Christmas turkey, a creature he affectionately names "Butch."  Excerpted from the Canadian author's book of short stories, Home From the Vinyl Cafe, the holiday yarn evokes the homespun, folksy wisdom evocative of Garrison Keillor's Lake Woebegone. Stuart McLean is one of Canada 's most popular broadcast personalities and the best-selling author of four other books. Home From the Vinyl Cafe won the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour, and Welcome Home: Travels in Smalltown Canada won the Canadian Authors Association Award for non-fiction. He currently hosts CBC Radio's The Vinyl Cafe and is a professor of broadcast journalism at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto .

McLean's "Christmas Presents," excerpted from Vinyl Cafe Unplugged, is another humorous vignette from the life of Dave and his wife Morley, who gets the quaint, Martha Stewart-esque notion into her head of having the family make their Christmas gifts instead of conveniently buying them at the mall. Husband Dave comes to the rescue and the notion of gift-giving takes on new meaning.
