MAYA ANGELOU

Maya Angelou, author of the landmark I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,  is a poet, historian, author, lecturer, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist,  producer and director. The Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University , North Carolina since 1981, she has published ten best-selling books and numerous magazine articles earning her Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award nominations. In 1993, she wrote and delivered an original poem at President Clinton’s inauguration. The themes of love and the universality of the human experience are woven throughout her work.
