LOUISE ERDRICH

Louise Erdrich A member of the Turtle Mountain Band of the Ojibwe, Erdich is of Chippewa and German-American descent, and grew up in North Dakota.  Her fiction has appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, Redbook, Kenyon Review, Ms., North American Review, O. Henry, and the Best American Short Stories of 1983. She has won the Nelson Algren Award, a National Magazine Award, and her novel Love Medicine won the National Book Critics Circle Award. She co-authored The Crown of Columbus with her late husband, Michael Dorris, and now lives in Minnesota, where she runs a small independent bookstore, The Birchbark.
