GRACE PALEY

Born in the Bronx in 1922, Paley has authored several collections of short stories, including Little Disturbances of Man, Enormous Changes at the Last Minute and Later the Same Day. She was the first recipient of the Edith Wharton Citation of Merit. A Guggenheim Fellow, recipient of the Jewish Cultural Achievement Award, and additionally honored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Institute for Arts and Letters, and the State of New York as its first official state writer, Paley has published three books of poetry, as well as numerous essays and short stories in The Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, and The New Yorker. She has taught at Sarah Lawrence College , Columbia University and Dartmouth College .
