BRUCE JAY FRIEDMAN
Bruce Jay Friedman (1930– )- Beginning his career as an
editor and magazine and short story writer, Friedman began writing novels in the
1960’s and plays later in the decade. He has published seven novels, four
collections of short stories, four full-length plays, including Steambath (1970),
and several screenplays, including Stir Crazy (1980), Doctor Detroit
(1982) and Splash (1984), which won an Academy Award nomination for Best
Original Screenplay. His book The Lonely Guy’s Book of Life (1982)
provided the basis for Steve Martin’s The Lonely Guy (1984). He has
also written for television and acted in two Woody Allen films.
