T. Coraghessan
Boyle’s seventeen works of fiction include seven short story collections,
the most recent of which, Tooth and Claw, was released in September of 2005. He
has long been a fan of the Speaking of Stories series, which featured his modern
classic, Greasy Lake, in its inaugural performance at the Center Stage
Theater, and has performed a number of his stories since. He has twice performed
his own pieces for Speaking of Stories, most recently as part of the 2005 season
reading Chixulub. For Holiday Chestnuts 2003 performance he donned his
black beret and read Beat, his send-up of the Beat Generation.
Mr. Boyle’s stories have appeared in most of the major American magazines,
including The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s, Esquire, The Paris
Review, Playboy and McSweeney’s, and have been included in the annual Best
American Short Stories and O. Henry Awards collections. His work has been
translated into some two dozen foreign languages and he has been the recipient
of numerous awards, including the PEN/Faulkner Award for his 1987 novel, World’s
End, and the PEN/Malamud Prize in short fiction for his 1998 volume of collected
stories. He earned his M.F.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and is
currently Distinguished Professor of English at USC. He currently lives in
Santa Babrara with his wife and three children.
