BEVERLEY HYMAN FEAD

Beverlye Hyman Fead is a woman of many talents.  At a young age Beverlye pursued her love for art.  She studied art at UCLA and had one-woman oil-painting shows in LA, Aspen, and New York.  She was also a well-known ceramist that worked in Deruta, Italy.

In addition to her art, Beverlye has always enjoyed writing.  Thirty-five years ago she began travel articles for In Flight Magazine.  She also wrote sports interviews for Golf Magazine.  It was a wonderful opportunity that incorporated her love of travel and sport.  Later, she wrote a couple articles for the Montecito Journal and travel articles for Santa Barbara Magazine.

After having been diagnosed with cancer in late 2002, Beverlye attended Perie Longo’s hospice poetry.  The class inspired Beverlye to writer her book, I Can Do This: Living With Cancer; Tracing A Year of Hope, that combined her artful skills in painting and poetry with the kind of hope and inspiration that can only happen to someone who lived through it.  The pages contained in her book hope to comfort, inspire, and perhaps even spare a life much like that of her own.

Since having been published by the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara, the book has provided many opportunities for Beverlye to share her story of hope.  She attended the Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference and won an award for nonfiction.  She has had book signings and speaking events at Tecolote’s in Montecito, Borders and Little Town Club in Santa Barbara, the Pepper Tree Inn in Palm Springs, and the Book Loft in the Santa Ynez valley.  She was a keynote speaker for the Caring House of Duke University Comprehensive Cancer Center and at the Women of Action awards luncheon in Beverly Hills, CA.  She will also be the inspirational speaker for the American Cancer Society Survivor Relays and has many future events scheduled.  She has appeared on a variety of television shows including Gloria Greer and Walking Stick.

Inspiring cancer patients, and their loved ones is what makes life meaningful to her.
